Naveen Calls For Structuring Diploma Education

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday asked the Skill Development and Technical Education department to structure the course of the Diploma education befitting the requirement of potential employer both inside and outside the state to make the students industry-ready.

Patnaik said the present Diploma course curriculum is not responsive to the needs of the industries. The course should inculcate skill with practical training.

The Skill Development department, must have tie ups with industries to see that the students are given work as apprentice during their course period, he said adding that unless this students who pass out will not be industry-ready.

Speaking at a workshop on Polytechnic education organised by the Skill Development and Technical Education department, here Mr. Patnaik said the government is planning to set up at least one Polytechnic in each subdivision to make polytechnic education more accessible to rural students.

The Chief Minister said while establishing Polytechnics priorities would be given to sub divisions which are not yet covered by any diploma level institutions either government or private.The government, he said, has also planned to increase the annual intake capacity of government polytechnics to 12,000 during the 12th five year plan.

The state has now 32 government polytechnics with an annual intake capacity of 8,425. Three more government polytechnics are being set up in Bhadrak, Deogarh and Jagatsinghpur districts.

In addition to there are 89 private polytechnics with an annual intake capacity of 37,740 are operating in the state.

The state government, Patnaik said, is laying special thrust on development of laboratories, library, ICT infrastructure and Communication skill finishing skill training.
