09 November, New Delhi

Crediting Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi with the success of the Grand alliance, comprising the Janata Dal (United), the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress, in the Bihar Assembly polls, party general secretary Incharge for Bihar C P Joshi today said the overwhelming feeling among party workers was that Gandhi should take over as president .

”In Bihar assembly polls, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was the architect of the Grand Alliance that stormed to power in the state. The vision of Gandhi, the developmental work of Nitish Kumar as Bihar CM and the energy of RJD chief Lalu Prasad has resulted in the huge victory for the Grand alliance in Bihar over the BJP-led alliance,”Dr Joshi told reporters here.

Asked if the victory of the Grand alliance in the Bihar Assembly polls and a brilliant performance by the Congress, which won 27 seats, had cleared the stage for the elevation of Gandhi as party president, Dr Joshi said,”The overwhelming feeling among Congress workers is that Gandhi should take over as party president.”

The Grand Alliance scored a massive victory in the Bihar assembly polls, winning 179 seats in the 243-member Bihar assembly while the BJP led alliance won just 58 seats.
