BJP threatens to move court if JD(U) recognized as main opposition
Feb 15, Patna
The Bihar unit of the BJP Sunday decided to move the court if Speaker of the state Assembly gives recognition to the ruling JD(U) as the main opposition party in the Vidhan Sabha.
Leader of the opposition in the State Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav said that the JD(U) is a divided house today and each of the two factions led by Jitan Ram Manjhi and Nitish Kumar, are claiming majority. But the majority of both the groups would be decided on the 20th of this month when the Chief Minister seeks vote of confidence. Before that it would be illegal to recognize any of the factions as the main opposition party, he added.
On the other hand, JD(U) leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said that the party’s demand for being recognized as main opposition was valid as the government run by Manjhi who is an unattached member of the Assembly, had no support of any party in the House, faced with a piquant situation of recognizing a new principal opposition in the Assembly.
The Speaker Udai Narain Chaudhary has called a meeting of leaders of all parties tomorrow- Monday to decide on various complicated legislative issues including demand by the Nitish Kumar group of JD(U) to be identified as the main opposition party ahead of the Budget Session starting from the 20th of this month.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday hit back at senior Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar for holding Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre responsible for the ongoing political deadlock in Bihar.
Meanwhile ,Senior BJP leader and Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu pulled up JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar for blaming Union Government , particularly the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the deadlock in Bihar. Centre has no role in the ongoing war of the ‘Janata Parivar’, clarified Naidu.
“I would like to make it very clear there is already a war in ‘parivar of the Janata’. They are divided not united. The Centre has no role in that. Modiji has no role at all. Mr. Nitish Kumar is blaming Modi and the Central Government for their failures,” Naidu told the media here.
“Who asked you to resign Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister? Did Modi ask you to resign? Who asked you Nitish Kumar to make Manjhi as the Chief Minister? Did anybody tell you? You made him the Chief Minister. Who asked you to ask Manjhi to resign as the Chief Minister? It is your decision. You wanted to play a drama for some time,” he added.
The JD (U) leader had earlier accused Prime Minister Modi and the BJP of ‘attempting to throttle democracy’.
Kumar also alleged that the Bihar Governor’s decision to ask Manjhi to prove his majority in the state assembly on February 20 has been scripted in Delhi and is designed to ‘allow horse-trading of MLAs’.
