Assam Demands Removal Of Governor Acharya
22 November, Guwahati
Assam government Sunday demanded the removal of Governor PB Acharya, accusing him of working as an RSS agent and threatening the unity and integrity of the nation.
In a statement here, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said the Governor’s purported statement that Hindustan is for Hindus goes against the secular nature of a governor’s position and has the potential to disrupt unity and integrity of the entire nation.
Gogoi alleged that Acharya’s statements make him look like an RSS agent and he could work for the BJP in next year’s Assembly election, using the clout of his position.
Demanding the removal of Acharya from the Governor’s position, the CM also expressed surprise at the Centre for not appointing a fulltime governor for Assam. Acharya, who is the Nagaland governor, was given additional charge of Assam.
On the Governor refuting having made the controversial statement, Gogoi said it was an attempt by Acharya to redeem his name.
