Energy Conservation First & Foremost Way To Stop Global Warming, Says PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said energy conservation is the first and foremost way to stop global warming.
Expressing concern over climate change and global warming, he said government has launched several schemes in this direction.
In his address in 14th edition of Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio, the Prime Minister talked about LED bulb scheme. He referred to Noor Jehaan of Kanpur Uttar Pradesh who has set up a solar lantern plant and lends out solar lantern to housewives at 100 rupees per month.
Referring to burning of crop residues by farmers in Punjab and Haryana, the Prime Minister said these residues are valuable and can be cut into small pieces and converted into organic manure.
He gave several suggestions on making good use of crop residue.
Conveying sympathies to the people of Tamil Nadu affected by recent floods, Mr. Modi said heavy downpour and unseasonal rainfalls are also impact of global warming.
He called for enhancing capacity building at all levels including Government and civil society to deal with such situations.
The Prime Minister said that 66 lakh people including 24 lakh women have benefited from the recently launched Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana.
He said, Rs. 42 lakh crore have been disbursed to beneficiaries during the short span of time.
He said, most of them belong to SC, ST and OBC category who are trying to become self dependent and have a dignified life.
The Prime Minister said, MUDRA is encouraging small entrepreneurs by creating avenues for earning and empowerment.
Stressing on the need for popularizing the scheme, Mr Modi asked banks to become more sensitive so that more and more people can take its advantage.
To mark International day of persons with disabilities on the 3rd of next month, the Prime Minister called for change in attitude towards physically and mentally challenged persons.
Referring to Javed Ahmed of Jammu and Kashmir who was seriously wounded in a terror attack and is now working for the welfare of physically challenged persons, Mr Modi said, such people are endowed with unique courage and ability and they can become source of inspiration for others.
Mr Modi said, government has launched a national registry of transplantation on 27th of this month for organ donors and patients waiting for transplants.
He said, organ donation can save lives and in a way brings immortality.
The Prime Minister said, there will be more awareness in the area of organ donation and the needy would be benefited in best possible manner.
The Prime Minister appreciated the role of ASHA workers in providing health services specially in rural areas. Mr Modi hailed Jamuna Mani Singh an ASHA worker from Odisha for her fight against malaria.
Mr Modi also spoke about Ek Bahrat Shrestha Bharat scheme and asked people to come forward with more suggestions to give the programme a specific shape.
