2015 Janlokpal Bill ‘Worst Of All’: Prashant Bhushan

Criticising the Aam Aadmi Party government over the 2015 Delhi Janlokpal Bill, activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan today said the proposed legislation is totally different from the previous 2014 version.

2014 Delhi Lokpal Bill totally different from #AapKaJokepal. Yet AAP was brazenly claiming it as identical! It thinks repeating lie 100 times works, Mr Bhushan said on micro blogging site twitter.

He accused the AAP government — the party he was earlier associated with — of using the tactics of Hitler’s infamous Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, who believed in repeating a lie a 100 times so that people believed it as truth.

The bill will be tabled in the Delhi Assembly tomorrow.

Bhushan said the 2015 Janlokpal Bill was the “worst” of all the Bills prepared on the subject so far.

He supported his criticism with a comparative study of several Lokpal Bills and Acts — the Delhi Janlokpal Bill 2014, Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill, Centre’s Lokpal Act and Team Anna’s Janlokpal draft.

Earlier, the former AAP leader said the new draft of Bill states that the appointment and removal of members of the Lokpal will be done by the Delhi government. ”But, we had demanded that the appointment be made by an independent Lokpal,” he added.

“Delhi Lokpal Bill trashes all principles of an independent Janlokpal that we had drafted: Appointment and removal not under government; Independent Investigating agency under Lokpal,” he said.

Yesterday, the Aam Aadmi Party lashed out at Bhushan and said, Everyone knows his relations with senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley. The BJP is just testing the senior lawyer on loyalty grounds. It won’t be surprising if he’s soon rewarded with a position.
