Alabama Governor apologizes for police assault against Indian national

The Governor of the US state of Alabama has apologized for use of excessive force by police against an Indian that left him partially paralysed. Governor Robert Bentley also ordered the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to launch a parallel investigation in the case.

Federal Bureau of Investigation has already started its probe. The 57-year-old Indian national, Sureshbhai Patel, was assaulted by police in the Madison city on 6th of this month which left him partially paralysed.

The Governor, in a letter to India’s consul general in Atlanta, offered an apology to the government and people of India and Patel. He expressed regret over the unprovoked assault and termed it as an unfortunate incident.

Meanwhile, Patel has been transferred from the hospital to a rehabilitation centre following improvement in his condition.
