87-Yr-Old CPI(M) Leader Commits Suicide

Former deputy speaker of Tripura legislative assembly and one of the most eminent personalities of communist movement Sunil Kumar Choudhury was found hanging at his own residence in Sabroom of South Tripura Monday.

.He was 87 and is survived by his wife, four daughters and one son

.Choudhury left a suicide note in which he mentioned that he is going to commit suicide due to his prolonged suffering from illness and nobody is responsible for his death. Police recovered the note from his room.

A condolence rally was conducted along with the body.Travelling thoroughfare, the rally concluded in front CPI (M) party office. Party Secretary Dipak Choudhury and party workers paid tribute to Sunil Choudhury. Then, the body was taken to Sunil Choudhury’s residence.Later the body was taken to the crematorium where he was paid guard of honor by the state police and after that the last rituals were performed.

Sunil Choudhury remained as MLA since 1977 to 1993. He was engaged as the deputy speaker of state assembly for five long years. He was the Chairman of Sabroom Notified Area Authority since 1979 to 1987. Also, he remained as MLA from 1962 to 1963. He was the only son of Hemendra Choudhury, who was a landlord.The former MLA took the membership of CPI (M) in 1953 when he was 25 years old.
