Odisha To Constitute Law Commission Soon: Naveen

Odisha government will shortly constitute Law Commission in the state, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said here Tuesday.

Addressing the annual conference of All Odisha Lawyers Association, Patnaik said the law commission will examine all the existing laws and suggest modifications, if necessary.

Lauding the role of lawyers and their profession, the Chief Minister said advocate are the protectors of legal system and they must use their expertise for greater social justice.

He said lawyers should act like statesmen, heavily engaged in public interest and pro bono practice to promote progressive democratic values.

Lawyers are the leaders of conflicts and can provide lubricants that permit diverse parts of social order to function with minimum friction, Mr Patnaik added.

In the present scenario I urge our young lawyers to take up social responsibility and work for the benefit of poor and disadvantaged the Chief Minister said.

Supreme Court Judge Justice Dipak Mishra, Panchayati Raj and Law Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo, Advocate General Surya Prasad Mishra, all Odisha lawyers association president Gyana Ranjan Mohanty, general secretary Bibhu Prasad Tripathy and High Court Bar Association president Ashok Mohapatra spoke on the occasion.
