Odisha Seeks Drought Assistance Of Rs 2344.99 Cr From Centre

Odisha Government Friday submitted the final Memorandum to the Central government seeking drought assistance of Rs 2344.99 crore.

Earlier, a consolidated amount of Rs 2199.066 crore was sought from the Union government through two Interim Memorandum.

The Special Relief Commissioner office sources here said based on quick assessment the state government had first submitted a memorandum on November 23 last year seeking Central assistance of Rs 1687.56 crore and then on December 2 last year submitted another memorandum and sought an additional assistance of Rs 511.507 crore.

The final memorandum was submitted today after the crop loss assessment of major crops raised during Kharif-2015 conducted through crop cutting experiment under the provisions of Odisha Relief Code was completed.

The assistance sought in the final memorandum was Rs 145.92 crore more than the Central assistance sought in two memorandum submitted earlier.

As per the reports crop was damaged in 21.60 lakh hectares in 235 blocks of 28 districts due to the drought.

In the final memorandum the state government sought Rs 1,062.47 crore foragriculture input subsidy, Rs 912 crore for conversion of crop loan advanced during Khriff 2015, Rs 206.67 crore for gratuitous relief Rs 72 crore for fodder, Rs 52.49 crore for revival of minor irrigation projects and Rs 13.92 crore for strengthening of fodder resources.BM
