Sanitary napkin vending machine inaugurated at Thane Traffic Police headquarters

A sanitary napkin vending machine was today inaugurated at the city Traffic Police headquarters here by noted Marathi stage and film actress Sonali Kulkarni in the presence of joint commisisoner of police Asutosh Dumbre.

Speaking after inauguration of the machine, Kulkarni advised the women to shed their inhibitions about menstruation or the monthly periods.

The members of the fair sex should not consider the periods as curse but a blessing, she said and urged the members of society to change their attitude towards the menstruating women.

The actress further said that such machines should be installed at the railway stations, educational institutions and public places as well as in corporates.

In his address, Dhumre said, ”Although we are living in modern times, the people behave as if they are living in the 19th century and are shy to discuss issues related to sex education or the monthly periods in public.

”We should change with the changing times and change the thoughts towards such education,” he said and asked people to come out in open while discussing these things.

The initiative to install the sanitary napkin vending machine was taken by DCP Traffic Thane, Dr Rashmi Karandikar.

She said there are more than 1,300 women police constables in the Traffic department and to address their need such a machine was installed, she added.

Gradually additional machines would be installed at various locations including the police headquarters, she stated.
