20 January, Wednesday

Maharashtra government will file a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court, challenging acquittal of Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the 2002 hit-and-run case by the Bombay High Court.

According to the Law and Judiciary department sources, directions have been issued to state lawyers to file the SLP, in a week’s time.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had already said that the state government would appeal against the high court verdict that acquitted Khan of all charges.

Bombay High Court Justice A R Joshi had on December 10 last year acquitted the actor of all charges in the case.
