06 February, Patna
BJP Saturday alleged large scale irregularities to the tune of more than Rs 1 crore, in disbursement of scholarship among the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes(STs) students of Bihar, studying in technical institutes outside the state and demanded a thorough inquiry into the scam.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi alleged that scholarship money was disbursed to 60 most oppressed students studying in technical institutes outside the state on the basis of forged documents
.”During the financial year 2012-13, 60 students of most oppressed sections of the society were shown to be admitted in 12 technical institutes in Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Karnataka,” former Deputy Chief Minister said, adding that scholarship was sent to 13 students in different technical institutes in the year 2015, which was three years after the admission.
Modi said on verification, it was found that names of students, technical institutes and its addresses were fake. Such gross irregularities should be investigated and those found responsible should be brought to the justice, he said.
Reiterating his demand for investigation into the matter, former deputy chief minister claimed that non payment of scholarship to SCs/STs students drew attention of the Nitish Kumar government only when the matter was widely highlighted in media and then only Rs 17 lakhs as scholarship was paid to such students after criticism
