JNU row: BJP hits out at Rahul, says Cong should stop spreading ‘poison’ in educational institutions

Hitting out at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over his stand in the ongoing JNU row, the BJP Friday said Congress has a single point agenda to gain power.
The Congress vice-president, who yesterday led a 17-member party delegation to the Rastrapati Bhawan to submit a strong worded memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee, accused the BJP-RSS leadership of imposing their “dead and flawed ideology” over the entire student community of the country, communalising education and also holding responsible the Modi Government for the Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula’s death in Hyderabad Centrel University hostel room earlier last month.
”In the lust of power, they (Congress) are spreading poison in the educational institutions of the country. We will expose Rahul Gandhi and company from streets to Parliament,” BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said while interacting with medipersons here.
The BJP leader also accused Gandhi of not ”doing home work”, after Gandhi scion slammed the Centre over issue of problems of farmers and price rise while interacting with farmers in Amethi. There has been a check on price rise after the BJP led NDA government came to power at the Centre.
The BJP led NDA government has also brought crop insurance scheme for the benefit of the farmers in the country, Mr Sharma asserted.Earlier in the day in Amethi, the Congress vice president said, ”Patriotism is in my blood and no one can question about his love for the country.”In a brief interaction with media here on the first day of visit to his parliamentary constituency, Gandhi said those who are questioning him should answer where were they when Congress and others fought during the Independence movement.
The JNU campus has been on the boil since the controversial event at the campus on February 9 during which ‘anti-national slogans’ were raised in an event meant to observe the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
The ongoing row over commemoration of Afzal Guru’s death anniversary in Jawaharlal Nehru University escalated with the Centre taking a tough posture against it and Delhi Police making its first arrest under sedition charges for holding the event.JNUSU president, Kanhaiya Kumar, was arrested from his hostel in the JNU campus by police personnel in plain clothes on February 12.
