25 February, Hyderabad
A well known Fertility Consultant, Nova IVI Dr Chandana Lakkireddi said that there are treatments available to unexplained infertility problem and also those connected with genetics.
Talking to newspersons here Wednesday, Dr Chandana said that quite the few modern tests like Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) and Endometrial Receptivity Analysis (ETA) for both husband and wife are available checking genetic problems.
She said the success rare for genetic disorder was also most 50 per cent especially those who are below 35 years of the age.
Dr Chandana said, Mr and Mrs Kumar (name changed) are 34 and 29 years old respectively, and have been married for over four years ago. Despite many attempts and not able to conceive a child, they had many consultations with various doctors to find out what is wrong.
Even after several diagnostic tests, the cause of infertility could not be found. After their recent check-up with Nova IVI Fertility in Hyderabad, they came to understand that their’s is a case of unexplained infertility, where there is not one specific diagnosis, but possibly a combination of one or more inefficiencies in the process of conception.
Dr Chandana said, In over 80 per cent of couples, experts can identify the male or female factors that affect fertility. In some cases there are both male and female factors, also known as combined infertility.
A standard evaluation of couples with infertility usually involves initial tests such as semen analysis, assessment of fallopian tubes. Sometimes we discover a woman has blocked fallopian tubes or abnormalities of the uterine cavity, such as fibroids.
When the results of these tests are normal, the diagnosis of unexplained infertility is made. We see unexplained infertility in nearly 17-20 per cent of the cases in Hyderabad.”
