Govt clears Air Defence Guns proposal for IAF

In a move aimed at securing the Indian skies in areas of ‘vital assets at vital points’, the Government today cleared a proposal to procure Air Defence Guns for the Indian Air Force.

The proposal to manufacture the Guns under ‘Make in India’ category was approved by the Defence Acquisition Council chaired by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

The project is likely to cost Rs 7,000 crore, which will be executed by Ordnance Factory Board under ‘Buy and Make’ in India category, sources in the Defence Ministry said.

Acceptance of necessity of procuring four Guns with 61 flights each has been accorded, said the sources.
