UN to celebrate Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary for first time

The United Nations will for the first time celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, known as messiah of the downtrodden, focussing on the theme of removing inequalities with a process of sustainable development.
India’s permanent representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin tweeted,”Babasaheb’s birth anniversary to be observed at UN for the 1st time with focus on combating inequalities to achieve SDGs.”
The UN adopted a set of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) on September 25, last year with 17 major targets including ones to end poverty, protest the planet and ensure prosperity for all, to achieve over the next 15 years.
Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary falls on April 14.
