British High Commissioner meets Mah Governor; offers to develop Pune as smart city

Newly-appointed British High Commissioner to India, Dominic Anthony Gerard Asquith, Friday called on Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao here and offered all kind of help todevelop Pune as a smart city under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet Smart City project.

He also offered to set up a Centre of Excellence on Automobile Skills in Pune.

Besides Pune, Asquith has agreed to collaborate with the respective state governments and municipal authorities to transform other cities, viz Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Amravati in Andhra Pradesh, into smart cities.

Thanking the British High Commisioner for his country’s help, the Governor said Maharahstra would welcome cooperation from Britain in areas such as cleaning of rivers and water bodies, sewage treatment and management of solid waste. Deputy High Commissioner of Britain in Mumbai, Kumar Iyer was also present.
