Modi govt 2 years: Bachchan pitches for daughter’s rights

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan today kick-started the celebrations of second anniversary of the Narendra Modi-led government with a clarion call to give women an equal role in nation building.

Sporting white kurta pajama with saffron color jacket, popularly known as Modi jacket, Mr Bachchan appeared on the dais on which slogan ‘Nayi Subah’ (a new dawn) welcomed him. In his initial remarks on ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padao’ segment of the five-hour-long cultural extravaganza, Bachchan invoked famous poet Allama Iqbal and father of nation Mahatma Gandhi to bring home his point that women need to be given more than equal status in comparison to their counterpart.

“Girl child needs to be protected and empowered. Beti Bachao campaign is the need of the hour. This dream cannot be realised till we ensure equal number of females taking birth as male,” Bachchan said.

After his brief speech which was simultaneously communicated through sign language for differently able people, Bachchan interacted with girl students, answering their queries in most informal manner. When a girl curiously asked him as to why he was called as “BIG B” the superstar, he squatted at her feet in a childish manner and asked her who was taller.

He said the media gave him this title of Big B but he do not consider himself this big and advised children to focus on their work.
