Odisha govt. appoints weightlifter Rabi Kumar as DSP

Odisha government Thursday appointed eminent Sportsperson and weightlifter Rabi Kumar who won gold medal in common wealth games in 2010 as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the appointment. Rabi Kumar is the first sportsperson in the state to get appointment in the Group-A category.

Rabi Kumar had won a gold medal in weight lifting in 69 kg category in the 19th Common wealth Games held at New Delhi in 2010.

The government is giving appointment to sports persons in police and other government departments considering their achievements to encourage sports.

Recently sprinter Dutee Chand and Shrabani Nanda were also given appointments as Assistant Managers in Odisha Mining Corporation and Odisha Hydro Corporation respectively.

In addition to it as many as 59 sportspersons were given appointments in various posts in police and 583 sportspersons have been provided with a total incentives of Rs 2.65 crore.BM
