Naveen unveils statue of Nandini Satpathy

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled a 10-foot-high statue of the first woman Chief Minister of Odisha Nandini Satpathy on her 85th birthday Thursday.

Crafted by eminent artist BSV of Vishakhapatnam, the gigantic statue was installed near the Raj Bhavan here. The state Culture Department has spent Rs 5.8 lakh for the statue.

Among others Odisha Minister for Culture Ashok Chandra Panda, local MLAs, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Mayor A Jena, Parliament member Prasanna Patsani, Lok Sabha MP and son of former Chief Minister Tathagat Satpathy were present at the unveiling ceremony.

At several places in the state meetings were held to commemorate the day as Nandini Diwas.

The 85th birth anniversary of legendary Nandini Satpathy, who was popularly called the Iron lady was celebrated by a number of organizations at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Barhampur, Dhenkanal, Baripada, Sambalpur, and also outside the state.BM
