Bengal govt signs MOU with Korean power major to reduce power loss

West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Korean power behemoth-Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)- to research and study to reduce transmission and distribution (T&D) losses among power distribution companies in the state.

The MoU was signed between WBERC secretary JC Chakraborty and KEPCO general manager Moon Taeok in presence of state power minister Shobhandeb Chatterjee on Friday, official sources here today said.Under the agreement the Korean company after studying the transmission systemand then submit its report within in a month.

The study report will beverified and then a road-map will be prepared, Mr Chakraborty added.” We can keep tariff low if this loss is managed properly”.” KEPCO will carry out a research on the distribution facilities andinform WBERC of the results, including the actual reasons,” he said.
