Calcutta HC Judge Recuses himself From Hearing WB Transport Minister Madan Mitra’s Bail Plea
02 March, Kolkata
The Calcutta High Court judge Monday recused himself from hearing a
bail prayer of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra who is in
judicial remand since his arrest by the CBI for alleged complicity in
the multi-crore Saradha Chit Fund Scam.
One of the judges of the division bench of justices Ashim Kumar Roy
and I C Das was not inclined to hear the matter on personal grounds.
The petition would now be referred back to the Chief Justice of the
High Court and would be freshly assigned to a different division bench
for hearing.
Mitra, whose bail prayer was rejected on the 11th of last month, by
the Alipore district and sessions judges, had filed the bail prayer
before the High Court. Mr. Mitra, was arrested on 12 December last
year.
