Union Govt. Issues 251 Letter of Intent to 150 Indian Companies To Produce Defence Items

The Defence Ministry has issued 251 Letters of Intent or Industrial Licences to 150 Indian companies for producing a wide range of defence items.
These include major weapon systems, armoured vehicles, warships, aircraft, helicopters, radars, and electronic warfare systems. Altogether 49 licensed companies have already begun production.
These companies will produce unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs, communication and surveillance systems, ammunition and explosives as well.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar stated this in the Rajya Sabha Tuesday . He also informed the House that the government has approved 33 joint ventures or FDI proposals with countries like the USA, UK, Canada, Israel, France, Singapore, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
