Insurance Laws Amendment Bill Introduced in Lok Sabha

The government Tuesday introduced the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill 2015 in the Lok Sabha amidst arguments and counter arguments between Opposition and treasury benches over the procedural wrangles. The Opposition’s move against the Bill was rejected in a division of votes, with 131 members supporting and 45 opposing.

Earlier, the Opposition members objected the way government tried to introduce the bill. They argued that an identical bill is still pending in the Rajya Sabha and it is against the essence of legislative business to re-introduce in the other House. Intervening in the arguments, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Nadu referred to relevant rules to say that it is within the jurisdiction of the government.

Later, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha justified the introduction of the bill as it is an ordinance with a life of six weeks. The House, later, resumed discussion on the Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill.
