Postage Stamps issued on Rio Olympics

Union Minister of Communications Manoj Sinha Friday unveiled the Commemorative Postage Stamps on Rio Olympic Games and said the unique initiative will motivate the Rio-bound Indian athletes.

Issuing stamps on games of wrestling, badminton, shooting and boxing, the Minister said,”

A record number of players from India are participating in Rio. Focus of everyone is at Rio and we hope to get a positive result. This praiseworthy initiative by the postal department will certainly boost the orale of our players.”

Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel, who was also present on the occasion, said,” With 118 players competing 15 different disciplines, this is our largest ever contingent. The athletes were sent 10-15 days ahead to Rio in order to get familiar with the environment.”

“We provided every possible help to our athletes and appointed more than 40 foreign coaches ac per their requirements beside raising the coaches’ salary from 50 thousand to Rs two lakh,” he claimed.

The stamps have been issued on the four disciplines, in which India clinched medals at the last London Olympics.
