Merger of Rail Budget with General Budget on cards

In a move which will have far reaching consequences, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has mooted that the Railway Budget be merged with the General Budget, doing away withthe age old colonial practice.

Replying to a debate on the a resolution regarding recommendations of a railway convention committee, Prabhu told the Rajya Sabha today that he has written a letter to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to merge his ministry’s budget with the General Budget, with a request to keep it in the oral part of his speech.
