Jaya Prada appointed senior vice-chairperson of UP Film Development Council

27 August, Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh government has appointed Bollywood actor and former MP from Rampur Jaya Prada as the senior vice-chairperson of the state Film Development Council. She is two-term Samajwadi Party MP from Rampur, besides being a close confidant of SP leader Amar Singh, who was recently elected to Rajya Sabha in June on the party ticket.

Singh and the veteran actor were expelled from the Samajwadi party in 2010. Amar Singh was readmitted in the party recently and also nominated to the Rajya Sabha, but the yesteryear actor was waiting for her suitable accommodation.

Singh was embittered with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as he had appointed Gopal Das Neeraj as the chairman of the film development council and Jaya Prada was appointed as its vice chairperson.

After objection by Singh now the Chief Minister has elevated the actor’s status as senior vice- chairperson.

Earlier, Singh had alleged that Ms Jaya Prada was denied the council’s chairperson post on the instruction of another Bollywood actor Jaya Bachchan.
