CD scandal: 3-day police custody for Sandeep Kumar

05 September, New Delhi

A Tis Hazari court today remanded to three-day police custody former Aam Aadmi Party Minister Sandeep Kumar in connection with a rape case filed against him by a woman.

The woman had complained that she was raped by him when she had gone to his Sultanpuri, Delhi office, seeking help to obtain a ration card. She further alleged that she fell unconscious when Kumar had offered her a spiked drink and after which he raped her. Kumar, she said, had confirmed to her that he will get a ration card for her and ensure jobs for her children.

Delhi Police have registered a case under section 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence) of IPC, under section 67A of IT Act (punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration for an official act) against Kumar.

Kumar has alleged that he has been falsely implicated in the case because he came from Dalit community.

Police also detained the personal secretary of Kumar, who is accused of circulating a CD which showed the AAP lawmaker in a compromising position with a woman.
