India Govt. Serves Legal Notice on BBC Over Broadcasting Interview Of Nirvaya Gang Rape Convict

The Government Of India Thursday served a legal notice on the BBC over broadcasting the controversial interview of 16th December Delhi gangrape convict.

In the notice, the government has told the BBC that it has violated the agreement of not using the documentary for commercial purpose and for this the BBC is liable for legal action

.A Home Ministry official said that necessary approval was not taken by the BBC for the commercial use of the documentary. The notice was served by Director General of Tihar Jail Alok Kumar Verma through government standing counsel.

The government has also asked video sharing website, YouTube, to remove the documentary, as it is very sensitive.

Earlier in the day, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that necessary action will be taken, as the BBC had ignored the government’s advice and broadcast the controversial interview of the gangrape convict.

Singh also spoke to Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and asked him to ensure that the video is removed from all social media sites.

BBC aired the documentary yesterday, despite a Delhi court prohibiting it.
