ECI to provide tablets, smart phones to minimise errors in voters lists

The Election Commission decided to provide tablets and smart phones to the officers at the booth level to ensure minimum errors in the voter lists.

This was stated by Election Commissioner A K Joti, currently in the city to review and discuss arrangements for the ensuing Punjab assembly polls scheduled to be held early next year. He said with this system being introduced, the voters would be able to verify their names and addresses at the spot to ensure correctness of their entity.

He also visited service centres set up in Jalandhar and surrounding rural areas providing government services to the people.

He said the commission was considering to delegate its powers or the preparation of new votes and correcting data of the existing voters besides deleting those voters who either had expired or shifted to other places.

He also met some people at the Sewa Kendra and collected their views about the democratic process of the country to elect a government of the people.
