16 die during Ganesh immersion in Gujarat

At least 11 people died today during the immersion of Ganesha idols across Gujarat, taking the toll to 16, related to the ongoing Ganesh festival in the state in the last five days.

Four persons drowned in river Purna near Mordevi village in Valod taluka of Tapi district in South Gujarat, while one person was drowned near Hadod bridge in Lunavada town of Mahisagar district during immersion of Ganesha idols.

Three persons drowned in the bay of Cambay in Anand district, Palitana of Bhavnagar and Surendranagar district in a similar manner.

One person died in a road accident while he was returning after participating in the Ganesh immersion in Jamnagar district while two people were killed in Chhapra Bhata area under Amroli police station of Surat in a group clash during the immersion ritual over an incident of eve teasing.Yesterday, five persons had drowned in Rajkot during idol immersion ceremony.
