Nitish warns of steps against those coming drunk to Bihar

16 September, Gwalior

Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) President Nitish Kumar today said that, from October 2, action would be initiated even against those who arrived in that state after consuming liquor outside its border.

“The ban on liquor improved the lives of Bihar’s residents. Earlier, intoxicated men were habituated to assaulting women of the household,” he said at the ITM University here while addressing students during the ‘My India, My Vision’ programme.

Sans naming former parliamentarian Mohammad Shahabuddin, recently released on bail, Mr Kumar said that the law would take its own course.

“The country cannot progress until removal of regional disparity that affects growth rate. Sustainable development is possible only when all the states move ahead in unison. The common man should benefit. An atmosphere of acerbity and intolerance has been created across India. The country can be run only by comprehending that it is replete with diversity,” he added.

Pointing out that Bihar granted 33 per cent female reservation in panchayati raj institutions, the visiting politician said that marginalised dalits were earmarked as mahadalits, a nutrition scheme begun for schoolgirls, a cycle scheme also commenced and martial arts training would be imparted to girls.

“Disinterest of the youth vis–vis the fundamental sphere of politics is lethal,” he felt.
