Jaya announces construction of ‘Amma’ marriage halls

Unveiling yet another scheme under brand ‘Amma’, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced construction of ‘Amma’ marriage halls at a cost of Rs 83 crore.

In a statement here, she said the marriage halls would be constructed at 11 places in the State.

The halls would be built in Tondiarpet, Velacherry, Ayapakkam, Periyar Nagar, Korattur in Chennai, Anna Nagar in Madurai, Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli, Salem, Kodungaiyur in Tiruvallur and Udumalaipet in Tirupur district.

Aimed at providing affordable facilities to people from poor economic background to conduct weddings and other family functions, these halls will be equipped with air-conditioned and other facilities.
She also announced the halls could be booked online and facilities in this regard were being made.

Pointing out the difficulties faced by the people from theeconomically weaker sections in conducting domestic functionsat high cost halls, Ms Jayalalithaa said she had ordered construction of Amma marriage halls for the benefit of poor.

The halls will have facilities including air-conditioned rooms for bride and groom, guest rooms, dining hall and kitchen.

The Tamil Nadu Housing Board and Cooperative Societies would be executing this scheme.

Ms Jayalalithaa also announced construction of 50,000 houses through Slum Clearance Board at the cost of Rs 1,800 crore.

The government will offer a subsidy of Rs 945 crore to the beneficiaries to construct 45,000 houses at the rate of Rs 2.1 lakh to each unit.

She said she has also ordered construction of another 2,000 low income, middle income and high income group tenements by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board during the current fiscal.

Each LIG flat will come up at 645 sqft area and would have a hall, two bed rooms and a kitchen. It will cost less than Rs 20 lakh, while MIG flat of 807 sq ft will cost below Rs 30 lakh.

Ms Jayalalithaa also announced construction of 908 tenements for rental to State government employees, 1,266 for sale to public at Rs 401 crore.

Under the self-financing scheme, 873 tenements will be builtin Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli districts.
