Mah Govt to soon introduce household equipment to test quality of milk: Minister

The Maharashtra government will soon come out with an household equipment to test the quality of milk with a view to curb adulteration of milk, state Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Mahadeo Jankar said today.

Speaking after inaugurating a milk sale centre of the ‘Swabhimani’ brand here this morning on occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, he said that adulteration of milk was a serious crime and it results in health hazards. Realising this, the Dairy Development Department has come out with various measures, and taken several steps to curb them, he informed.

”Very soon we will come out with a small household equipment which will be useful to identify the adulteration in milk ,” the minister said.

He further said that the state was still lagging behind in dairy development and efforts were being made through various mediums to improve its position. Jankar declared that the state would do everything to popularise the local brands of milk and said this will be visible in the coming days.

He also said that agricultural products like jowar and bajra should be brought directly from the growers on the lines of the vegetables.

The minister suggested that good quality chicken and mutton should be sold in sealed packs and said that the department was working towards the same. Also present on the occasion were Thane MLA Sanjay Kelkar, MP Raju Shetty and MLA Vinayak Mete.
