India strongly placed against New Zealand in Kanpur Cricket Test

India Saturday gained control of the first Test against New Zealand on the third day in Kanpur by building a big overall lead of 215 runs.

The hosts were 159 for 1 in their second innings at stumps with Murali Vijay remaining unbeaten on 64 and Cheteshwar Pujara at the crease with 50.

The batting duo put together 107 run stand for the second wicket. This was Pujara’s 9th fifty in Tests. India had a crucial first innings lead of 56 runs when they scored 318.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin shared 9 wickets between them to restrict New Zealand to 262 in their first innings. Of this, Jadeja claimed 5 wickets for 73 runs which was his 5th five wicket haul in Tests.
