Japanese Encephalitis toll mounts to 27 in Odisha

Japanese Encephalitis claimed three more lives of children in Malkangiri district of Odisha during past 24 hrs taking the death toll in the vector-borne disease to 27 in 25 days.

While several children affected by the disease are undergoing treatment, condition of five to six of them is stated to be critical, health official sources said.

An expert team is scheduled to visit the affected villages today to take stock of the situation. This apart, state Health Minister and health secretary are visiting the affected areas today.

Besides, a special team of veterinary doctors will be sent to the affected villages to identity pigs infected with Japanese Encephalitis virus, the official sources said.
