Cauvery row: Centre constitutes team to assess ground realities of basin area

Following the Supreme Court order, the Centre has constituted a high level technical team to visit the Cauvery basin area to assess the ground realities.

The team headed by Central Water Commission, Chairman G S Jha will meet in Bengaluru on Friday for a preparatory meeting and subsequent visit to the Cauvery basin area for assessing the ground realities. It will submit a report to the Supreme Court on 17th of this month.

In a statement, Water Resources Ministry said, Chief Engineer of Krishna and Godavari Basin Organization, Hyderabad and Chief Secretary or representative from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and One Chief Engineer each from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry are parts of the team among others.

Yesterday, the Court had ordered to set up the expert team over Cauvery water dispute. It had also asked Karnataka to release 2,000 cusecs Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu from 7th to 18th of this month.
