Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina escapes Bomb Blast in Dhaka
08 March, Dhaka
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had a narrow escape Saturday when several bombs exploded in a busy commercial area of Dhaka minutes after her convoy passed through it. Several crude bombs exploded in Karwan Bazar only 10 minutes after Hasina’s convoy passed the area.
Hasina was on her way to address a rally organised by the ruling Awami League in the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan, to mark the anniversary of the historic public address by the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971.
One police official received minor injuries in the blasts. The blasts occurred amid an ongoing transport blockade and a shutdown across Bangladesh, enforced by the Opposition BNP and its allies.
