Nationwide prohibition needed if country wants to move ahead of China: Nitish

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Thursday said that nationwide prohibition was required if India had to move ahead of China in term of development.

Addressing ‘Chetana Rally’ during his “Nischaya Yatra” here, Mr Kumar said that Chinese people were once in the grip of opium intoxication but China reached on the pinnacle of growth once its people got rid of it. He said that India could register tremendous growth if people of the country quit the habit of drinking.

The Chief Minister said the positive impact of prohibition on the state was becoming visible now and heads of families were becoming more responsible. He said that consumption of milk and sweets had increased manifold following the imposition of prohibition in the state. He said that liquor peddlers were being sent to jails and nobody would go unpunished if found guilty of violating new prohibition act.

Kumar said that the state government had started implementing its seven point resolve with the purpose of providing electricity and toilets to all houses and connecting all villages with roads. He said that while Narendra Modi government was talking of transforming urban centres into smart cities, his government was developing smart villages.

He said that “Nischaya Yatra” would help him make on the spot assessment of execution of different government schemes and also receive people`s feedback on his government`s various programmes.

Kumar said that the country could not be put on high growth trajectory unless Bihar was developed and similarly Bihar could not progress until Mithalanchal region also registered high growth. He said that his government was committed to all round development of the state and concerted efforts were being made for the purpose.
