Death toll in Indore-Patna express train accident rises to 149

In Uttar Pradesh, death toll in the ill fated Indore-Patna express has risen to 149 out of which 140 bodies have been identified so far and about two hundred injured, informed District Magistrate Kanpur Dehat.

The North Central Railway spokesperson told AIR, he railway route at the accident site also became functional from late last night. Passenger trains are now passing through the Pukhrayan route where the accident occurred on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Railway Saftey Commissioner, Eastern Circle, PK Acharya has started investigations into the accident. Mr Acharya examined the broken tracks and damaged coaches at the accident site yesterday. Railway engineers and technical staff were also questioned in connection with the derailment

The Government Railway Police of Jhansi has registered an FIR against unknown people including railway officials who were allegedly responsible for the accident. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had assured that guilty will be punished and thorough investigation will be carried out. 14 coaches of Indore-Patna express were derailed and some of them completely mangled after the acciden
