Kerala invites Non-resident Keralites to invest in tourism ventures

Tourism authorities in Kerala are inviting entrepreneurs to increase accommodations in northern Malabar ahead of the opening of its fourth International Airport in Kannur next year. They expect an influx of holidaymakers in the region of unspoilt beaches, backwaters and hill stations when the Kannur airport begins commercial operations in August, an official said today.

The southern state’s Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC) in association of Kasaragod Press club is organising a two-day workshop for the aspiring tourism entrepreneurs in the northern town of Nileshwaram on December 11 and 12. This is a tremendous opportunity for Keralites in the Gulf and other regions in and outside the country to invest back home before returning for good.

The preliminary workshop is a part of the government’s several initiatives giving priority to small and medium entrepreneurs to boost tourism in the region.

The workshop will also focus on farm tourism, Ayurveda centres, tour operations, responsible tourism, indigenous art, martial art, yoga centres and handicraft and souvenir making.

It is open to entrepreneurs from all districts in the state who wish to start such businesses in the region from Vadakara in Kozhikode to Kannur and Kasargod districts. “There will be a spurt in tourism opportunities with the launch of the new international airport and the extension of the National Waterway to Bekal,” the official said.
