Navjot Sidhu’s wife, Pargat Singh joins Congress ahead of Punjab Assly poll

In a shot in the arm for the Congress ahead of the assembly election in Punjab, former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu Monday joined the party along with former Indian Hockey captain Pargat Singh.

The duo joined the Congress at a press conference here, where Punjab PCC chief Amarinder Singh, AICC incharge for the state Asha Kumar and AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala were also present.

Last week, Capt Singh had announced their decision to join the main Opposition party after the two leaders had met the Congress high command and finalised the terms of their joining.

Announcing their entry into the party, Capt Singh said Ms Sidhu and Pargat Singh had decided to join the Congress under the leadership of party president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Asked if Mr Sidhu would also join the Congress, the Congress PCC chief said, “If Ms Sidhu is here, then can he stay behind?”

When queried on the issue, Ms Sidhu said, ”we are two bodies but one soul. A body can’t stay without the soul… he has to come.”

Also present on the occasion was Punjabi Sufi singer Hansraj Hans.
