Bandh against demonetisation evokes mild response in various parts of country

The opposition parties’ call for a protest and left parties for the bandh against the demonetisation decision of the central government evoked mild response in various parts of the country Monday.
In Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh, there was no impact. Shops, educational institutions, business establishments and industry were open. In the national capital, members of students wing of Congress took part in a rally.
In West Bengal while the left parties called a 12-hour bandh, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, JD(U) and Trinamool Congress refrained from participating in the strike. The Congress organized a protest rally and called the day ‘Jana Akrosh Diwas’. The bandh did not affect normal day to day activities in the state.
In Bihar, there was a little impact of the bandh. JD (U) did not participate in either the bandh or the protest. Our correspondent reports that schools, Colleges, Offices, Banks and business establishments functioned as usual.
In Tamil Nadu, the bandh call by the opposition failed to evoke any response. All offices, schools, colleges and business establishments were functioning as usual. Public transport has been free from any disruption. However, cadres of many opposition parties staged statewide protests and hundreds of people courted arrests.
In Kerala, the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) to protest against the impact of demonetisation on the cooperative sector hit normal life today. Only private vehicles plied and offices registered thin attendance.
In Left ruled Tripura, Normal life was hit in response to the bandh called to protest against demonetisation.In Madhya Pradesh, Congress and other opposition parties organized rallies and meetings across the state to protest demonetisation.
In Gujarat, protests were held by the congress workers in various parts of the state today against the demonetization drive. But shops, transport and offices remained open in the state and overall public life was normal throughout the day.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leaders and workers held ‘Jan Aakrosh’ rallies in various parts across the state.
