Tata Steel to construct 30 Model schools in Odisha

The Odisha government Monday signed an MoU with the Tata Steel to construct 30 model schools in 30 educationally backward blocks spread over seven districts of the state.

Director of Higher Secondary Education Ratnakar Rout and Tata Steel Corporate Service Vice President Sunil Bhaskaran signed the MoU in the presence of School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra.

The model schools will be set up in Jajpur,Keonjhar ,Sundergarha Cuttack ,Ganjam ,Dhenkanal and Nayagarh districts.Tata Steel will spend around Rs 130 crore for the 30 schools and as many as 16,800 students will be benefited by the initiative.

As per the agreement Tata Steel will spend Rs four crore for the construction of each school and provide goods worth Rs 33 lakh to each of the school.Mr Mishra said in addition to it the Odisha Mining Corporation will construct 25 model schools and steps are being taken to construct 97 more schools in phases.

The Minister said all steps are being taken to complete the construction of 60 schools and start imparting education from the next academic year.

The Tata Steel has been requested to complete at least 15 schools.Government has decided to set up 162 model schools in educationally backward blocks.

Out of it 100 model schools are operating in 14 districts since 2016-17 educational year and the construction of 62 is on. Mishra said the construction of 55 model houses is being made by various corporate houses.BM
