Swine Flu Death Toll Rises To 235 In Maharashtra as Mumbai HC Seeks Report From Govt.

The Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra government to list out the measures it has taken to tackle swine flu cases in the state.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Mohit Shah was hearing a PIL seeking directions to the State government to take adequate preventive measures against the spread of swine flu.

Alleging that there is just one government testing laboratory in Mumbai, the petition seeks directions for government to set up a number of laboratories for testing H1N1 samples.

The PIL also wants the government to ensure adequate supply of medicines to all hospitals. The court has asked the state government to file the affidavit within four weeks.

Meanwhile in Maharashtra, another 14 people died of Swine flu in last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 235, since January this year.

According to the State Health Department, 187 patients tested positive for Swine flu today, taking the number of swine flu affected cases in the state to 2890. Of these, 1022 cases are reported from Mumbai, 860 cases are from Pune and 398 from Nagpur.

According to official sources, as many as 101 swine flu positive patients were discharged from hospitals today, thus the total number of patients treated successfully till date, stands at 2160 in Maharashtra.

The state health department has stated that it is well equipped to handle prevention and control of the disease and has adequate availability of the anti-viral medicine Oseltamivir that is used in treating swine flu.
