PM says demonetisation aims at curbing corruption; slams opposition for stalling Parliament proceedings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the demonetisation move is aimed at curbing corruption and black money and benefit the poor and honest citizens. Modi was addressing his sixth ‘Parivartan Rally’ at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh Monday.

The Prime Minister said, some politicians tried to provoke people standing in ATM queues, but their designs were not allowed to succeed as the common man patiently understood that larger interest of the country was at stake. Modi said, he understands inconvenience being faced by the people due to demonetization. He assured that the problem will be sorted out soon.

Modi attacked the Opposition for stalling proceedings during the Winter Session of Parliament. He alleged that Parliament was not allowed to function as Opposition parties were trying to defend the dishonest and were running away from a debate on the issue of corruption and black money.

The Prime Minister said that during an all-party meeting convened before the Winter Session, he had suggested a debate on simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies and donations to political parties. Modi criticised the ruling Samajwadi Party in U.P. over the law and order situation in the State. He said, there will be no welfare of people of the State without changing the government at Lucknow.

Attacking Congress, the Prime Minister said, there was no accountability during the UPA rule. He said, NDA government at the Centre has brought development and change. Earlier, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the country’s first ever Indian Institute of Skills in Kanpur. The Prime Minister said, if youth are skilled, they can give new momentum to the development of the country.
