Punjab to create elite force to tackle terror attacks, hijacking

Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced that an elite force comprising 250 Punjab police personnel which will be equipped with latest weapons and gadgets, will be created in the state to tackle terror attacks, hijacking and any emergent crisis.
Addressing a function at Chandigarh today after handing over the appointment letters to 768 police personnel including 125 eminent sports persons on various ranks, he said, his vision is to strengthen and modernize the police force and make it stand out amongst the best in the world.
He also said that out of the total strength of 70,000 personnel in the state police, 26 thousand were recruited in last 8 years.
Badal, who also holds sports portfolio, today handed over job letters to 9 eminent sports persons of Punjab as DSPs under new sports policy. In addition to this 115 players and 643 personnel were also given appointment letters in the rank of sub-inspector and constables in various wings. He also announced to recruit 125 eminent players every year in the state police.
