Uri Attack: NIA gives ‘clean chit’ to two suspects, hands over to Army for repatriation to Pakistan

The National Investigation Agency Wedneday gave a ‘clean chit’ to the suspects arrested in connection with the last year Uri attack and handed them over to the Army, for repatriation to Pakistan.

“The suspects namely Faisal Hussain Awan and Ahsan Khursheed, who were arrested by the NIA in connection with the terror attack at Uri Brigade Headquarter on September 18, 2016, have been released and handed over to the Jammu-based Army authorities Headquarters today,” intelligence sources here told UNI.

Sources said the duo has been handed over to the Army for sending them back to Pakistani authorities. “Investigation carried out by the NIA revealed that the two suspects had crossed over to the Indian side after altercation with their parents due to pressure of studies,” sources asserted.

They said that evidence collected in the form of statements, technical analysis of their mobile phones, seized GPS devices and other circumstantial evidence collected by the NIA did not reveal any linkage of the suspects with the attackers at Uri. Further investigation is continuing in the case, the sources added.
