HC restrains police from arresting Sasikala Pushpa till March 17

he Madras High Court (HC) bench here today directed the Thisayanvilai police in Tirunelveli district not to arrest AIADMK’s Rajya Sabha Member L Sasikala Pushpa till March 17.
When the Anticipatory Bail petition of Ms Pushpa came up for hearing, Justice J Nishabanu issued the direction to the police for not arresting her till March 17.The Thisayanvilai police on March 5 registered a case against the MP and her husband T Lingeswara Thilagam under various sections of the IPC and under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, based on the complaint by one Banumathy, a former housemaid of the MP.
The Housemaid in her complaint said that she and her sister had lodged an FIR with the all-woman police station in Pudukottai in Tuticorin district against the Ms Pushpa, last year and the police in turn registered a case under various sections of IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
On February 20 last, Sasikala Pushpa and her husband threatened me to withdraw the complaint filed against them, Banumathy in he complaint stated.Apprehending arrest in the case, the MP and her husband filed anticipatory bail petitions before the HC bench.Following this, the court directed the government side to file a counter to the case and adjourned the case.
